So Damn Artsy

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 23 - 2010

In an effort to conserve money, Chrissy and I are attempting some Do-It-Yourself projects for our wedding. I know we’re a year away but you can’t blame us for not wanting to scramble at the last minute. And who can blame us for being so excited we want to start doing stuff for it right away? Besides, anyone who has been through a nice wedding knows a year gives you just enough time to get the exact vendors that you want. You’d be surprised at the very mixed reactions we get for having our wedding in March 2011. Some people really hate us for it and some people think it’s perfectly normal.

This weekend we got crafty and made some decorations for the reception site (which we got final confirmation will be at The Biltmore. Stoked about that!). We’re hoping to hang these from the ceiling. We’re deciding if it should be lit from within or if we should just let light shine on it externally. It was easy to make but somewhat time consuming. We need to make about 50 of them if we end up going through with the idea.

Here are a couple pictures of our creation!

Obviously one is lit and the other is not.

Picking a Photog

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 18 - 2010

For obvious reasons, one of the things I got most excited about in the wedding planning process was looking for a photographer and videographer. Our wedding coordinator, Victoria Canada, has given our first assignment and it is to book our photographer as soon as we can. Today is about the photographers. Chrissy and I have narrowed it down to 3 photographers, so maybe the 150,000+ readers of mine can give me some input on who they like the most! I have a feeling only 1 or 2 will comment because the other 149,998 are really shy. :)

When I took the pictures for Steve and Ashlee, we were cracking jokes about how awkward the whole picture taking process was for the couple. But then I got to thinking how awkward it has to be for the photographer too. They have to carry conversation with people they’ve never met all while directing them. And a good photographer does it in such a way that makes the subject(s) at ease in a situation where many are uncomfortable and self-conscious. So I always find it interesting to learn the personalities of photographers which brings me to the first and only one I’ve met so far. So please read the rest of this entry to see the 3 we’ve chosen and feel free to give me your #1, #2 and #3! Thank you!

Vietnamese New Year 2010

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 14 - 2010

Vietnamese people (and a few other types of asians) get to celebrate New Years twice. Once for the calendar year and again for the lunar new year. I guess depending on the company you work for, you might even get 3 New Years if they use fiscal years! Awesome!

Here is a picture of Chrissy with the traditional dragon who paused to take a picture with the pretty white lady. :) and another of me feeding it money for good luck. It’s unfortunate the Blackberry camera is so horrible…And it’s double unfortunate that I’m Asian only because when I carry my camera around, I look like a tourist and not artsy like everyone else…

Valentine’s Day :: Nuit Blanche

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 14 - 2010

I’m a real sucker for slow motion. I’m also a bit of a romantic, probably in a bad girly way. Here’s a video that does both really well in honor of Valentine’s Day. This is almost as epic as the first time Chrissy and I met. :)  It’s also the featured video over to the right. I’ll update that often too. Happy Valentine’s Day Chrissy! I love you.

Pororo

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 12 - 2010

Here’s a quick one of Noah. He’s obsessed with Pororo. It’s a Korean cartoon and it’s a last case scenario to calm him down. Look at that focus! He’s just so damn cute!

Noah Kim

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 11 - 2010

I’m beginning to doubt my choice in domain name. Namely because Chrissy doesn’t appear to like it. So, I’m now open to suggestions for a new domain name. I still think the font I chose for “BROTOGRAPHY” at the top of this blog looks awesome. Hopefully it translates to the next domain name I buy.

Here are a few pictures of Noah, my adorable nephew. Chances are most of my pictures I post here will be of him since he’s the only subject who currently doesn’t have a say in whether or not I take his picture. :)

Anyways, these were taken Super Bowl Sunday 2010. His dad is a huge Colts fan, so now he is by association.

Hit the jump for more pictures…

Steve + Ashlee

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 11 - 2010

Good friends of mine, Steve and Ashlee took a chance on me and asked me to practice on them and take their engagement photos. If only I could be as comfortable around all couples like I am with Steve and Ashlee I could think about making money with my photography. It was great practice since they’re both incredibly photogenic.

More Steve and Ash after the jump!

Skate or Die

Posted by Anthony Nguyen On February - 11 - 2010

I took these a while ago when I first got my wireless triggers. I work with Jessie and I had the good fortune of meeting Mike through him. Both really good genuine people. And both really could probably kick your ass too. So good guys to have on your side. Sk8 or die.

A couple more after the break.

2010 is Looking Good

Posted by Anthony On February - 11 - 2010

Alright! First post time. On Thursday, February 11, 2010 I decided a good way to help keep me motivated in practicing my photography was to start a blog. That way, I would feel like I needed to maintain it and post pictures to it. I asked a couple friends for ideas and I ended up with “Brotography”. It was only 7 bucks to buy the domain name so I did that too. Now I have a blog with a somewhat lame (but funny to me and a few others) domain name. Maybe some day the content will be so awesome that the domain name ends up being awesome too. Thanks to Harry Finnochiaro for hooking me up with hosting and this sweet legit professional looking word press template!

So, here we go!

Here’s the first photo. Not taken by me, but featured because this is what’s making my 2010 full of excitement and anticipation! This was taken by one of the best photographer I personally know. A very close family friend, Dave. I proposed to Chrissy on December 9th, 2009 at the Phoenix Art Museum and this is a picture Dave took of us reenacting the proposal for all our friends who showed up to surprise Chrissy after the REAL proposal that same night .
